This operational hospice required new building works for the creation of new treatment rooms, waiting areas and staff offices.
OUR APPROACH
Before work could commence on the creation of new treatment rooms, waiting areas and staff offices our team worked with the client to understand their needs in more detail to enable us to design and build the correct solution. The treatment rooms required bespoke engineering solutions and required installation of specialist equipment, which required careful planing and resourcing.
When surveying the building, we discovered that the existing building services were fairly antiquated and needed to be updated to meet modern standards. This requirement was built into our overall approach to the development works.
KEY CHALLENGES
The project required sensitive handling and careful management as the building was an operational hospice, which also included an on-site nursery. In addition, the key infrastructure of the building could not be interupted as it was mission critical that all the hospice facilities remain live throughout the duration of the project.
OUR SOLUTION
To ensure the continued operations and uninterupted services of the hospice, we instigated a condensed programme of work including 24 hour operations to minimise the duration of the project.
To ensure that access was maintained at all times, we devised shared access routes with both the hospice and the nursery which avoided any conflicts with the access requirements for the works. As the project was delivered, we developed a set of phased handovers for Accelerate's staff.
