CASE STUDY | MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL
Philips Healthcare,
Luton & Dunstable Hospital
Duration
30 Weeks
Value
£2.5 million
Location
Luton, Bedfordshire
THE BRIEF
We provided infrastructure and Mechanical & Electrical services for a new £5.5 million cardiac centre that opened at Luton and Dunstable Hospital, including the provision of three new MRI suites.
OUR APPROACH
As part of major infrastructure work at Luton & Dunstable Hospital, we were engaged to provide M&E design and build services for this fast track project, which had a very short mobilisation period before major works had to begin. We delivered enabling works and full infrastructure Mechanical & Electrical Suites, together with the creation of new waiting rooms and operational areas. Once major works were completed, we also oversaw the integration of all the new and existing hospital services.
KEY CHALLENGES
As all key infrastructure had to be live throughout the project timescale, this project presented us with a number of challenges. As the mechanical and electrical engineering works proceeded, there was a requirement to keep all the existing MRI suites operational throughout to minimise disruption to patients requiring scans.
OUR SOLUTION
As part of the requirement to keep things operational, we provided logistical planning for access and egress around both live wards and the MRI suites for medical staff, patients and our construction personnel. This was managed throughout the duration of the project, including the relocation and reconfiguring of access points to the MRI and wards as works continued. We also had to provide specific acoustic treatment for all external plant used on the project to minimise noise pollution and disturbances to patients and staff alike.
